Dow Building & Construction showcased its elastomeric reflective roof coatings solution, high quality base material solution for perfect coating and water based concrete roof tile system solution at China Coat 2011 which was held at Shanghai New International Expo Center on November 23-25, 2011, demonstrating its ability to improve the performance of building materials and enable sustainable innovation as an industry leader.

For better results in environmental protection and energy saving, Dow has designed environment-friendly roof coating solutions using Dow acrylic latex to achieve 25% reduction in energy consumption through the reflection of solar energy, These coating materials are effective in reducing energy cost, relieving the urban heat island effect, improving the efficiency of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning) systems, and providing a comfortable environment. They are suitable for roof retrofit as well as new constructions. They’re easy to apply and maintain, and can help extend the life of roofing systems by 5 to 10 years. This technology has been successfully applied in the roof retrofit project of a swimming center owned by the China National Petroleum Corporation in the Hami region in Xinjiang, China. The roof of the building was a Xinjiang-style dome. The old asphalt membrane on the roof had deteriorated due to prolonged exposure to sunlight, resulting in leakage and inefficient heat prevention. Pure acrylic elastomeric reflective roof coatings solution from Dow were applied directly to the original asphalt roof of the building, successfully solving the leakage problem and meeting energy-saving requirements. This allowed the customer to apply the coating directly instead of removing the original roof, reducing the cost of the roof retrofit and meeting energy-saving requirements at the same time.
In construction projects, people often focus only on decorative coatings in order to achieve satisfactory coating effects on the surface of the wall. However, defects like substrate cracking and uneven substrate surface can have a significant impact on the final coating. Dow provides cellulose ethers (WALOCEL™, METHOCEL™), water-based acrylic polymer latex (PRIMAL™, TIANBA™), and redispersible powder to help customers build up high-quality substrate, make high-quality skim coat, reduce cracking, provide excellent polishing performance, reduce coating consumption, and achieve ideal coating effects.
The wide range of Dow acrylic latex products also includes solutions for water-based concrete roof tile coating technologies. This environment-friendly system not only brings better durability and more decorative effect to the traditional concrete roof tile industry, but also ensures the safety and health of manufacturers and users, and protects the natural environment.
Our technologies for sustainable development also include AQUASET™ – an revolutionary waterborne thermal set technique to replace traditional “Phenol-Formaldehyde” technique system in diversity applications including insulation materials, filters, special mat, rock wool… contributing to a more safe and environment-friendly “No Formaldehyde”.
